Thoughts on Breeding

I chose Grand Coeur as my kennel name, which reflects my belief that a proper Laekenois possesses a lot of heart. "Heart" refers to more than just charisma...it also refers to those qualities that make working and living with a dog a true pleasure--drive to work, willingness to please, sound nerves, and a strength of character that defines a good Belgian Shepherd of any variety.

I believe a breeder has a responsibility to the puppies they bring into this world, for the life of those puppies! I want to hear the joys and sorrows these little ones bring into the lives of their new owners (but don't say I didn't warn you about the couch!).

Health problems sometimes occur in the breed, including hip and elbow dysplasia, eye problems like PRA, thyroid disorders, and epilepsy. I screen my dogs (and potential mates) very carefully, because it's important to me that any pet or working dog be a healthy, sound member of the family. I do guarantee hips, elbows, and eyes in all puppies. Please contact me for more information on my contract and guarantee.

While Ulu is now spayed, I encourage prospective owners of Laekenois to contact me for breed information. A Laekenois is a major investment in time, energy, and love, and requires a special sort of person who is interested in a partnership with an active, engaging, and eminently comic companion.

Litters
2002 - "B" Litter

The Spock x Ulu litter was born July 11, 2002. One male puppy, Blade was produced. This litter of one was a real learning experience for us as breeders.

1999 - "Y" Litter

The Usco x Ulu litter born November 2, 1999 was my first breeding as Grand Coeur Laekenois. In keeping with the Belgian tradition, this was a "Y" litter, meaning all registered names begin with the letter Y.
